A

 

Absences

Absences are recorded and reflected in the trimester reports and the annual report card.
A distinction is made between "excused absences" (prior notification and reason) and "unexcused absences" (absence without notification or lateness).

Young people after compulsory schooling until the age of 20.

Adult migrants after the age of 20. There is no upper age limit.

Attendance days
I-B-A / I-B-A-20+

I-B-A:
5 days per week are mandatory.

 

I-B-A-20+:
The attendance days are determined in the interview. The minimum attendance time is 3 half-days and a maximum of 6 half-days per week.

Breaks There is a break for the learners in the morning from 10:00 – 10:20 AM and in the afternoon from 2:30 – 2:45 PM.
Whenever possible, this break is spent outdoors.
 
BYOD

In the canton of Zug, secondary level II schools (post-compulsory schools) work according to the principle of BRING-YOUR-OWN-DEVICE.

All learners work with their own mobile computer.

The device must meet certain requirements.
 

C

 

Camp

Once a year, the I-B-A organizes a camp outside the canton of Zug. During these days, the focus is on exercise and getting to know each other. The young people engage with their competencies in various situations.  They face challenges and overcome their limits.

 

=> The camp is obligatory. No trial apprenticeship can take place during these days.

 


Career counseling

 


All bridging programs work closely with the BIZ Office for Career Guidance. Individual consultations with career counselors also take place at the programs. 

 

Classes


At the I-B-A, individual learners are at the center.
There are no typical classes like at secondary school. The composition and size of the learning groups vary depending on the half-day and learning content. For some learning content, I-B-A learners are mixed with learners from I-B-A-20+.

 

Coaching


All learners in the bridging programs have a coach.

Together, they regularly discuss learning progress and the next personal goals in coaching sessions.
 

Competence
Orientation 

The learning concept in the bridging programs is based on the development of learners competencies.
The goal is to strengthen existing competencies and develop new ones.

 

Conditions for
admission 
at I-B-A

The I-B-A is aimed at foreign-speaking youth aged between 15/16 and 20 years with the willingness to:

 

  • Take on self-responsibility in the learning process
  • Be motivated to attend the program 5 days a week
  • Have the will to continue learning the German language
  • Participate and be open in the career choice process
  • Have the desire to get to know the culture and living environment of Switzerland
  • Hold residence permits B, B-EU, C, C-EU, F, S

 

Conditions for
admission 
at I-B-A-20+

The I-B-A-20+ is aimed at adult migrants (over 20 years old) with the willingness to:

 

  • Take on self-responsibility in the learning process
  • Be motivated to attend the program 1.5 - 3 days per week
  • Have the will to continue learning the German language
  • Participate and be open in the career choice process
  • Have the desire to get to know the culture and living environment of Switzerland
  • Hold residence permits B, B-EU, C, C-EU, F, S
  • Completion of language level B1

 

Conditions “Residence status” for admission
to I-B-A / I-B-A-20+    

The I-B-A | I-B-A-20+ is aimed at foreign-speaking youth and adults:

 

  • Family reunification
  • Migrants with regular and longer-term residence (B, B-EU, C, C-EU, possibly L*)
  • Temporarily admitted persons (F)
  • Swiss citizens with deficiencies in the German language (returnees from abroad)
  • Persons with refugee status (S)
  • with clarification and authorization from the Office for Migration

 

 

Costs I-B-A / I-B-A-20+

The canton covers the costs for the salaries of the learning facilitators and for the infrastructure.

 

The personal contribution covers school materials, copies, excursions, camps, and external learning events. No additional costs are incurred. Pricelist for bridging programs Zug

Cost reductions due to external course attendance or financial circumstances are possible upon request.

Any potential reduction and the amount of the personal contribution reduction will be determined by the program leadership of I-B-A / I-B-A-20+ after a personal conversation.

Difference 
I-B-A / I-B-A-20+

 

The target groups of the two programs differ based on age:

 

I-B-A
This program is aimed at foreign-speaking youth who have completed compulsory schooling and completion and up to the completion of the 20th year of life.

 

I-B-A-20+
This program is intended for adult migrants (over the age of 20) who have completed the German language proficiency level B1 and are seeking to enter the Swiss labor market.

 

Disciplinary procedure
At the bridging programs, a disciplinary procedure regulates how to deal with difficulties in complying with the learning contract (e.g. punctuality, motivation, cooperation, respect, etc.).
 
Duration of I-B-A


The duration is between 1 to 2 years
 

Duration of I-B-A-20+
The duration is a minimum of 4 months and a maximum of 1 year.

The I-B-A can recommend young people for general education schools (FMS / WMS) and grammar schools / Gymnasium ** (referral decision).

Goals
I-B-A / I-B-A-20+

Goals of the program:

- Learning and deepening the German language (German as a second language - DaZ)

- Developing a follow-up solution (vocational training, further schooling, work, internship)

- Training transversal skills (critical thinking, communication, cooperation, reflection, etc.)

- Integration into Swiss life and society

- Increasing competencies in subjects like Informatics, English, Mathematics, Arts, Natural Sciences, etc.

Holiday
(school holidays)

The school holidays follow the Zug holiday schedule.


Homework
 
Homework is not of great importance at I-B-A. Depending on the Coach and subject, students may receive assignments that they need to complete or prepare at home.

I-J

Individualization

 

At the bridging programs, the focus is on the learners and their skills. They work on learning content at the appropriate level and at their own pace. Working materials and learning environments are available. Together with their coach, learners set their own goals and discuss them regularly.

Interdisciplinary skills

At the bridging programs, particularly in the Integration Bridging Program, after focusing on language development in German, the development of interdisciplinary skills is at the core.

Interdisciplinary skills include, for example, organization, appearance, comprehension and expression. Progress in these skills gives learners security and strengthens their self-confidence.

Learning studio


At the bridging programs, the learning studio is the focal point. Independent work in the learning studio allows for the following experiences:

Taking responsibility for one's own work and learning, planning time frames, and developing independence.

 

Learning locations

 

The bridging programs of the Canton of Zug are located at three different sites in the city of Zug. Each learning location has space for a maximum of 80 learners. The locations are:

 

- Baarerstrasse 100, 6300 Zug
  (K-B-A, I-B-A, ABA Office for Bridging Programs)
 

- Ziegelmattweg 1, 6300 Zug
  (S-B-A, I-B-A, BFJ Vocational Orientation Year)

  (I-B-A, I-B-A-20+)
 

Learning agreement
 

Learners sign a learning agreement at the bridging programs. This contract describes the rights and obligations and is the basis for the collaboration.
 

Legal guardians / Parents
I-B-A

Parents and guardians are the most important people for young people (under 18) when it comes to choosing a career. This is why they are involved in the work (coaching).
 
Lunch

Microwaves are available at all locations of the bridging programs to heat up food you have brought with you.

Learners at the Baarerstrasse 100 site in Zug can eat in the GIBZ canteen.

If you have enough time, you can eat at home or in the city.
 

Language competence

I-B-A

For admission: Literacy process completed.

For entry into the 2nd year/bridge year: A2 completed.

If language level A2 has been completed and passed, you can also enter the 2nd year directly.

 

I-B-A-20+

Completion of German language level B1.
 

Language test
(German)

 

Learners in the I-B-A / I-B-A-20+ programs can take a TELC German test at the following levels: A2-, B1, or B2.
The appropriate level is discussed and determined between the learners and their learning facilitators.
 

M

Mobile phone


The mobile phone is a work tool and may be used in class. The learning facilitators have the right to introduce phone-free periods, during which work is done analogously.

If this rule is violated, the mobile may be confiscated and returned at the end of the day.
 

Motivation
(Willingness to perform)


A willingness to perform is a prerequisite for attending a bridging program.
You must be prepared to perform and work towards your own goals. Without the willingness to perform, it is not possible to make progress and achieve your own goals.

Notes (grades) / Certificate


At the bridging programs, there are no notes. The learning facilitators assess the completed work based on the learning objectives. These evaluations are presented in the trimester reports (December and March) and in the annual report card (June/July).

 

The trimester reports and the annual report card also include information about completed internships, trial apprenticeships, and absences. They also contain remarks on the learners' strengths and progress, as well as their work on transversal skills. The current language proficiency levels in German, English, and French are also indicated.

Partial payment


In justified cases, an installment payment agreement for the personal contribution or school fees can be requested in writing in advance.

Please contact us early, before receiving a payment reminder or dunning notice, at aba@zg.ch. A late fee of an additional CHF 35.00 will be charged upon the second reminder.
 

Portfolio


The learners in the bridging programs work on their own goals. This involves creating independent work, planning, and reflections.

Learners receive feedback from other learners and learning facilitators on their work. All of these documents are collected in a portfolio.

The portfolio demonstrates personal progress and learning paths. Learners present these documents in various discussions or presentations. The portfolio is part of the recommendation process for general education schools (WMS/FMS).

 
Pro Arbeit

Pro Arbeit offers German language courses at various levels.
With courses at Pro Arbeit, you can achieve German language level B1, which is a requirement for admission to I-B-A-20+.

 
Punctuality


Punctuality is important in Swiss culture, and as such, it is actively trained.

The door at the I-B-A closes at 8:30 AM / 1:00 PM. Anyone who is not present at that time can only rejoin the learning setting 90 minutes later. Stay away will be counted as unexcused absence.

Respect
At I-B-A, respectful interaction between all parties (learners and learning facilitators) is a central pillar of the collaboration. Discrimination and disrespectful behavior of any kind are not tolerated and will be dealt with through disciplinary procedures.

School confirmations


School confirmations may only be issued to learners after their first day of school.

Specifically: In the first week of school, all learners who have started have a school confirmation.  This must be sent to the compensation office.

 
School materials

 

At the beginning, the learners (LN) receive a list of the school materials they need. They are responsible for organizing these materials independently.

For excursions, weather-appropriate clothing is required.

 
Social welfare office


If parents or legal guardians are unable to pay the personal contribution, they are asked to contact the social welfare office in their municipality of residence.

It may be possible for the municipality to contribute to the costs.

The school performance is outlined in a trimester report (no grades).

Trial apprenticeship


Trial apprenticeships are an important part of career choice.  They help to find the right profession and the right company.

That is why it is always possible to do a trial apprenticeship at the bridging programs, with a few exceptions. A trial apprenticeship is planned and evaluated together with the learning guides.
