Strategy of the School Commission
According to section 4 paragraph 2 of the Cantonal Schools Act (BGS 414.11), the School Commission is responsible for setting strategic guidelines and making decisions. The work starts with having a vision for Zug's secondary schools. This serves as the basis for developing strategic objectives for the years 2023 to 2026.

The government council appoints one or more school commissions for the schools under the responsibility of the Department of Education and Culture.
The tasks of the school commission are defined by legal provisions.
The School Commission is responsible for strategic guidelines and decisions. It submits proposals in areas where other authorities are responsible.
It keeps itself informed about the running of the school, its culture and its development.
The School Commission also has the following specific duties:
a) It issues a concept for quality development and assurance, defines priorities and monitors their implementation;
b) It issues the curricula and the timetables;
c) it issues the school, promotion, disciplinary and absence regulations;
d) it regulates the transfer from equivalent schools and admission outside the usual school starting date;
Resolutions that have significant recurring financial implications require the approval of the cantonal government.
The School Commission appoints one or more persons to provide student counseling for a period of four years. The appointment can be extended a maximum of two times for a total of twelve years.
The counseling is under the direction of the School Commission.
In the case of procedures for selecting members of the school management, a preparatory committee makes a preliminary selection for the attention of the School Commission. The preparatory committee is made up of an equal number of representatives of the teaching staff on the one hand and members of the School Commission and the Department for Education and Culture on the other. A member of the school management participates in an advisory capacity.
