Avian flu
After avian influenza was confirmed in a mute swan in Zurich, restrictions were imposed on poultry farmers in the surrounding area to prevent the introduction of the avian influenza virus into livestock farms. Despite this, it is essential to implement preventive biosecurity measures (appropriate footwear and clothing for poultry houses, hand hygiene, etc.) across Switzerland. The Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office FSVO provides information on biosecurity measures on its website. Moreover, poultry farmers are required to notify their veterinarian of any unusual increase in illness or death among their poultry. The FSVO is monitoring the situation closely.
